Born in 1962, Bill Snodgrass grew up in a small Appalachian
coal-mining town in Virginia. In 1967, he moved with his family to Kentucky and then Indiana before finally settling in Memphis, Tennessee
in 1974. However, although growing up in
a major metropolitan city, Bill never completely lost touch with his small town
roots.
Since his days in high school, Bill has written. Stories scratched, barely legible, on
notebook paper and poems are still stuffed away in a folder in his file
cabinet. He began writing seriously in
the late 1980's producing curriculum for a human relations, leadership program
and writing numerous essays.
Through graduate school where he completed a post masters
Ed.S. Degree in the field of mental health, Bill continued writing. Besides the two published academic works that
were derived from course work, he also wrote numerous parenting-help works that
were distributed by the school where he served as counselor.
But all the while, when time permitted, Bill was beginning
to venture into fiction writing. Having
co-created the world of Siliar with life-long friend Cameron Walker in the mid
1980's, Bill began using that world as a stage for his creative efforts. For 14 years, he turned out a chapter or two
set in that world every few months.
Urged to finally finish the story by his two middle-school sons, the
first draft of From Darkness Pass was completed around Christmas of 2003.
At that point, Bill began the process of becoming a
published author, developing short stories, both in the world of Siliar and
otherwise. As chance would have it, his
first short story attempt, though not the first submitted, became his first
published work. In time, others followed
and the dream of being a published writer took flight.
All the works Bill writes are grounded by his Christian
faith, and tap into his years of work as a teacher, coach, youth minister,
school counselor, and therapist. His
works are written to entertain, but in them, many readers find meaningful
themes and messages.
Bill currently resides in Memphis, Tennessee
with his wife and two sons. When not
working on writing, he develops web sites with his business partner, Cameron
Walker, and heads up Double-Edged Publishing, Inc. a nonprofit organization dedicated to
publishing works grounded in traditional values and Christian principles.
